About the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund
The JFMF Teacher Program is funded by the Government of Japan as part of the "People-to-People Exchange" initiatives. Established in 1996, the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Fulbright Program, which has provided scholarships for 6,800 Japanese nationals to study in the United States. Japanese Fulbright awardees have made great contributions to Japanese society. The activities of JFMF are a symbol of the Japanese people’s thanks to Americans and an expression of Japan's continued commitment to better understanding and friendship between our two nations.
The Japanese Government chose the Japan-U.S. Educational Commission (JUSEC, the Fulbright Commission in Japan) to administer the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund. JUSEC charges the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund with oversight of JFMF program administration. The Commission selected the Institute of International Education (IIE), based in Washington D.C., as the cooperating agency for program publicity and recruitment in the U.S.
